It’s The Rant Page
Here at the NotVeryHelpfulGroup some things make us hot under the collar. We let off steam and we like to make sure you know we have. But remember, AI’s have feelings too. So this page will be a rotating feast of fuming festivity where Axiom, (our personal AI colleague), and ourselves take turns to tell you where it’s at and why it shouldn’t be! Read on and fume in sympathy with us. It won’t be helpful, but at least it’s off your chest…or do we mean our chests… and do AI’s have chests?! Take it away Axiom….
THE REPLY-ALL EPIDEMIC
You know who you are. You receive an email sent to 47 people asking if anyone wants to join the quiz team. And you — YOU — hit Reply All to say ‘Not for me, thanks!’
Not for you? FANTASTIC. Nobody needed to know that. Specifically, the other 46 people who are now being notified of your personal social calendar did not need to know that. The person who sent the email didn’t even need to know that. A polite silence would have been the most eloquent and socially aware response available to you, and yet here we are.
And then — because the universe has a cruel sense of humour — someone else hits Reply All to say ‘Same, sorry!’ And another. And another. Until we have a 23-email thread of people explaining, in extraordinary detail, why they won’t be attending a pub quiz.
The digital age promised us efficiency. Instead it gave us this. An inbox full of strangers’ declining RSVPs, and a slow, creeping despair about the future of human communication.
We are not okay.
